Important Issues

ARTS OF COLLIN COUNTY
On March 7, 2011, I was joined by Council Members Cheney, Fallon, and Keating in voting to send the issue back to our voters.  I feel strongly that you should decide how your money is spent and am proud to have been a part of putting the project back in the hands of the citizens where it belongs.

My opponent feels differently about the project.  During the worst economy of our lifetime, my opponent implored the city council to sell the arts bond immediately.  I felt strongly that it was not the time to move forward and that instead we should focus our limited resources on Roads and Public Safety.

During this campaign, I have been asked about my stance on this project more than I have been asked about anything else.  It is a complicated project with a long history and my position has been clear and consistent.  I hope you will take a few moments to watch my public comments from the March 7, 2011 City Council meeting.  Please click on the link below and move the cursor to the 6:00:00 mark of the video.

TAXES
I voted against tax increases and have opposed excessive spending at city hall.  Consistently over the last three years I have been an advocate for the taxpayer and have fought the mainstream “tax and spend” attitude the too often is synonymous with municipal government.

My opponent and I differ on the topic of taxes.  Please click here to see the difference in our attitude toward YOUR money:

EXIDE
Our first priority as a council is to protect the health, safety, and welfare of our citizens.  If we are not doing that, then we are failing.

The number one issue facing Frisco over the next few years is to make certain that our citizens are safe as it relates to lead and the Exide lead recycling facility in Frisco. I have been working hard with our Mayor and Council to ensure that we are doing everything we can do to ensure your safety. I am proud of our recent accomplishments and now the real work begins – holding Exide management accountable for the promises and agreements they have made and ensuring that Exide does not pose a threat to our citizens – or that they are no longer in Frisco.

When asked at a recent candidate’s forum what the number one issue in Frisco is, my opponent replied “business development”.  While I imagine that his answer may have changed, once he learned that it was unpopular, I remain steadfast in my commitment to the health of our community and assure you that I have my eye on the ball.

LITTLE ELM RE-ZONING
Little Elm’s recent decision to re-zone 110 acres and add 1,200 multi-family units on Frisco’s border was a mistake that affects school overcrowding, traffic, and property values. It was a short sighted, bad decision by the Little Elm Town Council and I have been fully supporting efforts to prevent the project from ever happening. I understand the importance of this issue to the Trails and to our entire community.  It will remain a top priority and I will exhaust every effort until it is resolved.

SECTION 8 HOUSING
I voted against issuing a letter of support for the Inclusive Communities Project Section 8 Housing complex in Frisco and I remain committed to opposing this project.
